From New Year's Resolution to Reality!

From New Year's Resolution to Reality!

My gym is packed from January 2nd until about Valentine's Day.

Why do so many sincerely made resolutions poop out?  More importantly, how can I keep consistent with many of my healthy choices?

This is the first of two tools that work for me.

I start with the end of my life.

What do I want my closest people to say about me after I die? Rather than being morbid, this practice keeps me in line with my mission.

I think about three dimensions:

    • Personal
      • Health: Cultivating and deepening my spiritual connection, staying healthy physically and tending to my mental health are essential to my being alive.
      • My career: How do I want to be professionally of service and to whom?
      • Creativity: What amuses and expresses me?
    • My relationships:
      • How do I want to show up with my darling husband, my kids and my mom, in my friendships, and in my community?
    • What Resources Do I Need:
      • Time: How much do I want to work - hours, energy, priority vs. relationships and health?
      • Money: What do I want my relationship with money to be? How much to I need to live the life I want? And by when?
      • Community of support: How can I cultivate the web of relationships that helps me, nurtures me and makes me laugh?

Then I work backwards in time.

If that's my mission, what do I want to be/have done in 10 years? 3 years? 1 year? This month? Tomorrow? Today?

Then the choices I make today are more meaningful. This helps me get to the gym when I don't want to go. To call my mom every couple of days. To put up some boundaries around my work time and energy.

Happy New Year. Let's get aligned with our greater missions.

xo,

Kay
